CANTON — The St. Lawrence County Board of Legislators, along with Sheriff Brooks Bigwarfe, presented Deputy Mathew Merria with a letter of commendation and lifesaving pin.
Deputy Merria was awarded “for his courageous acts on the morning of March 9, 2022,” according to a press release.
Around 1:40 a.m. that morning, Deputy Merria was responding to a domestic incident in the Town of Rossie, where he responded, assess and secured the scene to mitigate the threat and prevent further harm to the victim, according to officials.
“We are proud to have Deputy Merria serving in our community. As well as showing great courage, he shows compassion and exceptional character. We are pleased to recognize his brave acts of heroism,” Bigwarfe said.
