The St. Lawrence University men's basketball team suffered an 84-77 loss against The College at Brockport on Tuesday night in the Burkman Gymnasium. Five Saints reached double-figures in the effort.
Senior co-captain Ralph Temgoua led St. Lawrence (3-4) with 19 points, including a perfect 13-for-13 from the free throw line. He was joined in double-figures by fellow senior co-captain Garrett Sharlow (17), sophomore Janpeter Brase (12), senior Kyle Miller (12) and senior Terry Parham (11).
The Saints built an early 5-3 lead in the opening minutes but the Golden Eagles (3-7) took a 7-5 advantage at 15:56 and would never relinquish their lead. Down by as many as 14 points in the first half, the Saints cut the deficit to three on a 3-pointer by Kyle Miller at 1:25. Brockport held a 36-31 advantage at the half.
The Golden Eagles built their lead back up to double digits behind a 56.3 shooting percentage, though the Saints rallied back to within five points on a 3-pointer by Sharlow at 5:01. Despite scoring 15 points in the last 2:00 minutes of play, Brockport's free throw shooting in the final 1:23 (11-for-12) helped the visitors hang on for the 84-77 win.
The teams combined to shoot 38-for-49 from the free throw line, while the Saints held a 32-24 advantage on points scored in the paint.
St. Lawrence will begin conference play at Union on January 6th. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 pm.
