WADDINGTON -- Slic Network Solutions, Inc. has opened new fiber optic service areas in Madrid, Norfolk and Waddington

The new service areas are part of a more than $35 million dollar project to expand fiber optic cable in the North Country. Potsdam-based Slic received the grant to lay 660 miles of cable as part of the 2010 federal stimulus package.

Installations have already begun in the new Pine Grove service area, which covers portions of Madrid, Norfolk and Waddington. Installations are currently being booked about three weeks in advance due to demand in new service areas, according to a Slic press release.

The project aims to bring high-speed Internet service to previously unserved or under-served areas of northern New York, according to Slic staffers.

Slic is also working to make “IPTV” television service available to customers. Internal testing is underway and the company plans to do a “soft launch” on a limited basis May 1, staffers said. General rollout is scheduled for June 1.

They plan to offer over 150 nationwide networks and 50 music channels, along with local programming from Watertown, Plattsburgh and Canada, according to the Slic blog.

New service areas were also opened in North Bangor and Brandon of Franklin County recently.

A complete list of new St. Lawrence County service locations can be found at www.slic.com/pinegrove.
