Signs of spring: docks and buoys going back into St. Lawrence River

Posted

MASSENA –The New York Power Authority begins installing docks and buoys along the St. Lawrence River during the week of April 25. It is expected to take approximately two weeks, but is dependent on the weather and river conditions.

Installation will begin at NYPA’s Hawkins Point Visitors Center and will be completed at Howard Park docks in the Town of Waddington.

Docks and buoys will be installed in the following locations:

In the Town of Massena:

Hawkins Point docks and buoys

Massena Intake docks

South Channel buoys

In the Town and Village of Waddington:

Whitaker Park docks

Old Milk Factory buoys

Howard Park docks

All the docks and buoys are scheduled to be removed in the fall, depending on weather and river conditions. The fall removal is timed so they are taken out before heavy frost or ice form on the surface of the docks, creating unsafe conditions for workers and the boating public.
