Showers and thunderstorms are expected today as a cold front approaches the region, according to the National Weather Service forecast.

As daytime heating gets going, the showers could continue to develop in intensity and coverage, though the NWS does not expect any extreme storms today.

The cold front will move through overnight, setting us up for mostly sunny and dry conditions for the weekend.

Beyond that, no significant storm systems are expected for much of next week, so outside of isolated showers, it will remain mostly dry with near normal temperatures.

This afternoon: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 2pm. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 77. Southwest wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Tonight: Patchy fog after 3am. Otherwise, partly cloudy, with a low around 52. West wind 5 to 9 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Saturday: Patchy fog before 7am. Otherwise, sunny, with a high near 74. West wind 6 to 9 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Saturday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 45. Southwest wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the evening.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 75. Light southwest wind becoming west 5 to 9 mph in the morning.
