WADDINGTON -- A torrential storm led to the cancelation of Saturday night’s concerts and other events at Waddington’s Party in the Park.
A severe thunderstorm passed through and by 5:15 p.m. had scattered most of those in attendance.
By then, many vendors were packing up and closing their stands.
Some of those who remained on-site opted to take refuge underneath tents and canopies, but by about 5:45 p.m., state police and other emergency responders were going through the campground ordering people to take shelter either in their vehicles or the nearby hockey rink.
Those who opted for the hockey rink had to trudge through flowing water that in some places was more than ankle-deep.
The rain, thunder and lightning came and went over the next 90 minutes and by 7 p.m., officials canceled performances by Eliminator KC and Little Paradise.
Waddington Mayor Janet Otto-Cassada and event organizer Bob Giordano could not be reached for comment.
