SeaComm donates $10,000 toward ALICE program at United Way of Northern New York

SeaComm has granted $10,000 to the United Way of Northern New York (UWNNY) for the success of their ALICE (Asset-Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) Program. UWNNY has been able to assist more than 150 individuals and families since January 2021 through this program. Partnering with almost all Central School Districts in Jefferson, Lewis, and St. Lawrence Counties, United Way is helping working families overcome unforeseen financial hardships.

“When I arrived in the North Country in June 2019, I quickly began to notice many situational, life stopping problems for our hardworking families,” said Jamie Cox, CEO of UWNNY. “Our ALICE Program is designed to give extra assistance to those that don’t qualify, usually making one dollar too much to receive government assistance, but not making enough to survive”.

United Way of NNY’s ALICE Program has quickly become visible to other nonprofits and school districts, including some for-profit businesses throughout Northern New York. SeaComm heard about this program through UWNNY’s Grant Review Committee for St. Lawrence County and wanted to support it. Scott A. Wilson, President and Chief Executive Officer of SeaComm, has been a Grant Review Committee volunteer for the past two years.

“We are extremely pleased to provide United Way of Northern New York with a donation of $10,000 for its ALICE program,” said Wilson. “We recognize there is an ever-increasing need for assistance for our North Country neighbors and the most concrete way to show our commitment and assist those who are helping others is with our direct financial support”.
