Scott, 4x400 win titles, Saints 3rd as a team at Liberty League Championship

St. Lawrence University's men's outdoor track and field team had an individual champion and won the 4x400 relay, but had to settle for a third place finish in the six-team Liberty League Championships at Vassar on Saturday.

Senior Mike Scott won the high jump with a 1.98 meter jump, tying the stadium record for the Saint individual title while the 4x400 relay team of Jake Fredericks, Chris Payton, Vince Maniscalco and Nick Crawford won that event in 3:25.17, a stadium record.

RPI out-dueled RIT 222-168 for the team title with the Saints finishing third with 111, Union fourth with 50, host Vassar fifth with 49 and Bard sixth with 19.

The Saints added a second in the 4x100 relay with a team of Adrian Wilson, Omaru Kabia, Shawn Lillie and Andy Fisher running 43.35. Crawford added a second in the 400 hurdles in 55.49 with Fredericks finishing fifth and Fredericks was second in the 110 high hurdles. Wilson added a third in the 200 in 23.57. Brendan Courneene was second and Steve Petramale finished fourth in the 5000 meters while Trevor Bibb was fifth and Landen Elliott-Knaggs was sixth in the 10,000 meters and Zach Nelson was fifth in the steeplechase. Corey Hahnl added a fifth in the 1500 meters and Payton was fifth in the 400.

Other Saint scorers in field events included Brian Kane with a second in the high jump with Crawford fifth, A.J. Blaisdell was third in the discus, fourth in the hammer and sixth in the shot while Scott Kasson was third in the shot and sixth in the discus. Wilson finished fifth in the long jump, Josh Martel was fourth in the javelin and Kane added a fourth in the triple jump.

Individual entries will compete in the Penn Relays during the week and the team will return to action at the Cornell Invitational on Sunday.
