Schumer endorsing Hammond of Waddington for State Assembly

WADDINGTON -- New York Senator Chuck Schumer is endorsing Alex Hammond in his run for New York State Assembly.

Schumer is the Senate Democratic leader and the senior United States senator from New York.

“I endorse Alex Hammond for NYS Assembly because his view of politics is the right one: work with everyone to achieve what his constituents need. At the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Hammond was called to active duty with the National Guard to help in the fight against the virus. He showed true leadership by serving with the 2nd 108th Infantry Battalion in Utica, NY and continued to lead Waddington through the pandemic as its Town Supervisor. I look forward to working with Alex to bring more jobs to the North Country, lower healthcare costs, and fight the opioid epidemic,” Schumer said in an announcement.

“There are two major reasons why the citizens of Jefferson and St. Lawrence Counties continue to re-elect Senator Schumer every six years on Election Day: he religiously spends time in the North Country and he delivers policies that help working people, farmers and seniors, and also delivers significant resources and projects to our communities. I am proud to have Senator Schumer’s endorsement and look forward to working with him to improve the lives of each and every resident in the North Country,” Hammond said.

Hammond is currently Waddington town supervisor. A Democrat, he is running for the 116th Assembly District against Republican incumbent Mark Walczyk.
