With a 6-3 win over Rochester on Saturday afternoon, the St. Lawrence women's tennis team extended its win streak to five matches. They also hold the highest ranking in the Northeast region this season, currently 13th. Rochester entered the match ranked 20th in the region.
The Saints carried a 2-1 lead into singles play, after the pairs or Elkie Vandenbeemt and Morgan McNeal and Hallie Young and Samantha Miller grabbed 8-5 and 8-3 wins over their Rochester counterparts.
Vandenbeemt was the first Saint to clinch a singles win, posting a 6-0, 6-0 shutout at No. 1 over Dorothy Tai. It is her second straight set sweep of the week, after not having recorded one all season.
Georgia Comber picked up a key victory for the Saints at No. 4, as she battled back from dropping the first set 2-6, to win the following sets 6-4 and 10-3 for the Saints final point of the day.
Other wins for the Saints came from Olivia Arroyo, who won 7-6 (7-3), 6-1 at No. 2 and Hallie Young who earned a 6-3, 6-1 win in the sixth position.
The Saints will close out their regular season schedule with a Sunday afternoon match against William Smith in Canton.
