St. Lawrence University's women's squash team completed pre-holiday play with a pair of matches at Cornell on Saturday and lost 9-0 to two teams ranked in the top 20.
Host Cornell, ranked seventh nationally, and Columbia, ranked 16th, each swept the Saints, although there were some highly competitive games in both matches. The Saints, now 1-3 overall and ranked 27th nationally, are idle until Jan. 14-15 when they will take on Colby and Bowdoin at Yale.
Brigitte Tousignant was the only Saint player to win a game in the Cornell match as she won her first game at number one against Maggie Remsen, 11-8 before Remsen battled back for the 3-1 win. Remsen won 11-9, 11-4, 11-9 for the match victory.
Jenn Hearn lost to Cornell's Clare Berner at two, Kendall Harty lost to Lauren Sachvie at three, Brittany Coxe lost to Lexi Glassman at four, Cory McHugh lost to Laura Caty at five and Charlotte Edson lost her match to Sofia Theirry at six. Jacqueline Wagner of Cornell swept Parker Benedict at seven, Kate Holby lost to Kate Donatiello at eight, Carolyn Fisher lost to Sydney Chirls at nine and Kristin Scillia of Cornell beat Caroline Williams in the exhibition at ten.
In the Columbia match, Liz Chu turned back Tousignant 11-2, 11-6, 11-8, Alisah Meity beat Hearn 11-4, 11-6, 12-10 and Kate Celihan beat Harty 11-4, 11-1, 11-6. Coxe lost to Dheya Somenya, McHugh to Monica Stone, Edson to Kate Quinn, Benedict to Skylar Dickey and Holby to Kate Schroder with Fisher losing 11-4, 11-5, 11-4 to Morgan Strauss at nine.
