Saints women's lacrosse falls to Geneseo in season opener

Kara Hurley recorded a hat trick, caused one turnover, and grabbed two ground balls for the St. Lawrence University women's lacrosse team, but it was not enough as the Saints fell to SUNY Geneseo by a score of 13-8 Wednesday afternoon at College Stadium in Geneseo, N.Y.

The Saints got on the board first with Hurley's first goal of the game at 23:39 of the first half. The teams traded goals for the next seven minutes of action as Rachel Boghosian and Ashley Norris both scored for the Saints. The Knights then scored five unanswered goals to take a 7-3 lead.

In the second half, the Saints scored three back to back goals to try and close the gap. Hurley contributed two unassisted goals and Greta Massey added the third. Boghosian would score her second of the game off a ground ball picked up by Hurley and Norris would add her second on a free position shot to draw the game within one point as SUNY Geneseo led 9-8 with 8:20 to go in the half.

The Knights added four goals down the stretch to secure the win.

Hurley led the Saints with her three points, Boghosian and Norris would record two points apiece as Julia Mitiguy, Kayla Schmalz and Emma Jewett each added an assist.

Olga Lukas and Cricket Wemyss combined to record 10 saves in goal for the Saints.

Geneseo was led by Lauren Corbett with five points (three goals, two assists) followed closely by Halee Beebe with four (two goals, two assists).

The Saints will face Ithaca in their home opener Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. at North Country Field.
