Senior Kaelyn Kohlasch and first-year Katie Frederick scored 14 points each as the St. Lawrence University women's basketball team defeated SUNY Potsdam 70-50 in non-conference action Tuesday evening at Burkman Gymnasium.

Kohlasch and Frederick also added a combined 12 rebounds for the Saints. Annabella Pugliese rounded out the top three scorers for the Scarlet and Brown with nine points and eight rebounds.

The Saints jumped out to an early 13-point lead over the Bears with a 3-pointer from Meghan Hynes with three minutes to play in the first quarter. After some back-and-forth action the Saints held onto a 21-9 lead at the end of ten minutes.

A nine-point run early in the second secured a lengthy 20-point lead of the Saints. St. Lawrence shot 50 percent from the arc and carried a 38-17 lead into the locker room.

SUNY Potsdam rallied in the third quarter overcoming a 32-point deficit. Riley Luckie went 3-for-7 from the arc, including 2-for-3 in the second half to help make up the ground lost early on.

Despite the Bears' attempted comeback the Saints regained momentum in the fourth and put the game away. Kohlasch went 2-for-2 from the arc and 2-for-3 from the field allowing the Saints to take a 64-42 lead with six minutes to play and secure the win.

The Saints' defense held the Bears to just 34-percent from the field and 21-percent from the 3-point arc.

The Bears were led by Riley Luckie with 15 points and six rebounds, while Alexis Davis scored 10 points and grabbed four rebounds. Mikayla Horton and Nicole Hansen recorded seven and five points, respectively.

The Saints have a weekend off and will host SUNY Canton Saturday, December 16th at 1 p.m. before Christmas Break. St. Lawrence will travel to Huntingdon, Pennsylvania for the Juniata Holiday Classic on December 29-30.

Quote from Head Coach Dan Roiger

"Our goal was to perform consistently for 40 minutes tonight after a very inconsistent weekend. I thought we did well for about 33 minutes today, we had a poor stretch to start the second half but we did well the rest of the game. Our posts really did a great job on the boards, all four of them had six or more rebounds and our guards limited their second chances as well. Our defense was very good for most of the game with the exception of giving up three triples in the third quarter."

"This was a good bounce-back game for us and I was excited to watch the team come out firing in the first half. We didn't have the intensity we needed after halftime, but then got it back at the end of the third and start of the fourth quarter. I credit our starting lineup. They didn't have a good start to the third quarter, but then had a 15-3 run at the end of the third and start of the fourth quarters and that put the game away. I can see our potential in flashes, and this young team continues to make progress and are such a fun group to coach!"
