Saints women have strong track showing in Invitational win

Junior Carly Stine was second overall and the collegiate winner in a pentathlon competition on Friday and came back to lead a 4x200 relay team on Saturday as St. Lawrence University's women's indoor track and field team won the 2014 Saint Indoor Invitational at the Newell Field House on Saturday.

The Saints finished with 179 points with the University of Ottawa second with 131 and Brockport third with 123 in a nine-team field.

Stine scored 2934 points to finish second overall and as the top collegian in the pentathlon. Michele Krech of the Ottawa Lions totaled 3610 to finish as the overall winner in the seven-athlete competition. Stine scored over 600 points in three of the five events…693 with a 10.10 clocking in the 60 hurdles, 666 with a 1.54 high jump and 690 with a 2:30.21 time in the 800. Sophomore Allison Scarf finished fourth with 2636 points and classmate Teresa Griff was fifth with 2453. Stine came back to lead off the 4x200 relay which was second in 1:48.31, just over a second off the meet record on Saturday. She was joined by Divya Biswal, Ketura Mason and Hannah Kinsey on the relay team.

Kinsey had a busy day Satudray as she was second among collegiate competitors in the 60 meters in 8.07, just .07 off the SLU record with Mason finishing third among collegiate runners and she was just off the SLU record in the 200, finishing second among collegians with a time of 26.62.

A quartet of Saint athletes picked up individual titles in the meet as Lisa Grohn won the mile in 5:15.82, Biswal won the long jump at 5.20 meters with Tori Bean third, Ariel Beccia was the champion in the 3000 meters in 10:29.94 with Kelsey Leder fourth and Marisa Turner jumped 1.65 meters to win the high jump with Kylie Morris finishing second.

Biswal was third overall and second among collegiate competitors in the 60 hurdles in 9.51 seconds while Molly Lennon was third and Cassia Hameline was fifth in the 500 meters. Katherine Vincellette was third among collegiate runners and Mackenzie Ottati was fourth in the 400.

Kristine Linder was third in the weight throw at 14.11 meters and fifth in the shot while Caitlyn Boreyko was fourth and Taylor Washington was fifth in the pole vault.

The Saint Distance Medley Relay of Anna Rabideau, Turner, Hameline and Grohn was second in 12:53.08 and the 4x400 relay finished fourth.
