The St. Lawrence University women's hockey team shut out the University of Vermont on Tuesday night in Burlington, VT by the score of 3-0 in Gutterson Fieldhouse. Graduate student Maxie Weisz turned in 11 saves in net, while first-year student Bailey Habscheid added a pair of assists.

The victory moves St. Lawrence to 7-6-2 on the season, while the Catamounts fall to 1-6-7.

"We gave another strong effort tonight to finish off an eight-game stretch with a 6-1-1 record," said Saints' head coach Chris Wells. "It was another fast-paced game where we were able to score on some early opportunities. Maxie played solid to keep Vermont off the board."

St. Lawrence used an 11-4 advantage in shots on goal in a sound first period to build a 2-0 lead after 20:00 minutes. Sophomore Kayla Sullivan scored her fifth goal only 1:53 into the contest to put the Saints' on top, 1-0. After Vermont's Roxanne Douville made an initial save on a try from Habscheid, Sullivan charged to the crease and poked in a rebound into the upper portion of the net. Senior assistant captain Kirsten Roach earned the second assist on what proved to be the game-winning goal.

The Scarlet and Brown pushed its lead to 2-0 at 15:37 of the first period when junior Vanessa Emond sniped a wrist shot past Douville's glove after carrying the puck the length of the ice. Sophomore Michelle Ng had the assist on Emond's fourth goal of the season, which capped the first period scoring.

Weisz and Douville controlled the rest of the contest, as each goaltender stopped the remaining shots they faced. Weisz proved to be crucial in the win, though her team did an excellent job of keeping the pressure on the Catamount defense. Junior Alley Bero would put the game away with an empty net goal at 19:48 of the third period. Habscheid got the play started and earned her second assist of the game on the goal which brought the score to its final of 3-0. First-year Rylee Smith also had a helper on the final tally.

Douville closed with 19 saves in net, while Weisz earned the victory with her 11 stops. Neither team was able to cash in on the power play, with the two squads each finishing 0-for-3 with the extra skater.

St. Lawrence will have the weekend off before returning to action next weekend, Friday and Saturday, December 3 and 4 against Cornell and Colgate. The Saints will face the Big Red on Friday in Ithaca, NY at 3:00pm.
