HAMMOND -- The Ogdensburg Flotilla of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary will host “About Boating Safely”.

The class will be Aug. 2 and 3 at Hammond Central School from 5 to 9 p.m. each night.

Participants must attend both nights.

Certificates are awarded at the end of the second night.

They are valid in New York and all other states, and are easily replaced if lost or damaged.

A boating safety course is required in New York State for anyone 14 years old and older who operates a personal watercraft (i.e. jet ski), which this fulfills.

This course is also required for young adults ages 10 to 18 to operate a boat alone, and anyone, born on or after May 1, 1996, to operate a motorized boat unsupervised.

Classes are taught by local auxiliary members who have years of experience teaching boating safety and interacting with students.

Attendees will get questions answered about operating safely on local rivers and lakes in North Country waters.

Students will be able to see and check out various safety equipment items and you will receive an actual textbook and federal and state rule books to keep as references.

Cost is $35 per person.

A family plan is available.

Participants must register by contacting John Gardner at 393-6488, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
