Boston, MA – Tess Adams (Calgary, AB) netted her team-leading 11th goal of the season as the SUNY Canton women's hockey team opened play at the Codfish Bowl with a 3-1 loss to host UMass Boston on Monday afternoon.
Alexandra Karlis got the visitors on the board at 9:22 of the first but the host Beacons (6-6-0) led just 1-0 at first intermission thanks to a remarkable 21 first period saves from sophomore goaltender Rebecca DiNardo (Ottawa, ON).
UMass Boston slotted a pair of goals from the sticks of Jenny Currie and Maren Brown less than a minute apart in the opening minutes of the middle period to take a 3-0 lead after two periods.
The Roos (4-8-1) got within two late in the third period when Adams lit the lamp on an unassisted tally on the power play for her team-leading 11th of the season.
DiNardo had an outstanding game between the pipes turning aside 42 of the 45 shots she faced including making at least 10 stops in every period. Rachel Myette turned aside 17 Roo shots for the Beacons.
The Roos are back in action on Tuesday in the consolation game of the Codfish Bowl at 1 p.m. where it will square off with Endicott College. UMass Boston will play Trinity College in the championship game at 4 p.m.
