Canton, NY – Stephen Johnson scored twice and Mitchell Herlihey finished with a goal and two assists as the No. 2 nationally-ranked Oswego State men's hockey team skated to a 6-0 victory against SUNY Canton on Saturday in the Roos House.
The Roos honored their two seniors Kyle Dora and Nick Vasilopoulos in a pre-game ceremony.
After a scoreless opening period that saw the visiting Lakers only outshoot the Roos 9-7, the visitors broke through after a pair of Canton penalties early in the middle period.
The Lakers (18-4-1) posted their first goal 15 seconds into a 5-on-3 when Herlihey slotted his seventh goal of the season off passes from Chris Raguseo and Chris Waterstreet. With six minutes remaining in the 5-on-4 Johnson lit the lamp off the setup from Kenny Neil and Alex Botten. Oswego State extended the lead to 3-0 on an unassisted marker from Joey Davies at 6:30.
The Lakers added three third period goals from Sean Federow, Andrew Barton and Johnson for the 6-0 final.
David Jacobson stopped all 24 shots he faced in the shutout, while Josh Erickson and Austin Washkurak combined to make 25 saves in the loss for the Roos (7-16-2).
The Lakers went 2-for-4 on the power play, while Canton was 0-for-3 with the skater advantage.
