(Canton, N.Y.)- The SUNY Canton men’s and women’s cross country teams travel to Middlebury College this weekend to race in the Panther Invitational. This will be the first competitive race for both teams since hosting the North Country Invitational September 7.
For the men, junior Justin Richardson (Pavilion, N.Y.) and freshman Timothy Messina (Queensbury, N.Y.) led the team to its first regular season victory since the program began in 2007, finishing third and fourth respectively at the SUNYIT Wildcat Invitational. As a result, Messina garnered USCAA Male Runner of the Week honors to start the season. Richardson was also the Roos lead runner at the North Country Invitational with a 15th place finish.
On the women’s side, freshmen Megan Mydosh (Warwick, N.Y.) and Heather Ameele (Williamson, N.Y.) have been consistent leaders for the Roos. Mydosh raced to an impressive fifth place finish at the Wildcat Invitational, and has two top-ten finishes to her credit this season. Ameele has placed within the top 25 for both team races thus far.
The men will race first Saturday at 1 p.m. followed by the women’s race at 2 p.m.
