Hoboken, NJ – Jake Vierno gave up just one run over seven innings but the Roos ran into stellar pitching as Charlie Ruegger tossed a complete game one-hitter to lead Stevens Institute of Technology to a 3-0 win v. SUNY Canton on Friday evening.
Ruegger finished with 15 strike outs and no walks to improve Stevens to 11-9 overall and 4-1 in Empire 8 play, while the Roos fell to 3-11 overall and 0-1 in conference competition.
Alex Detweiler drove in all three runs for the Ducks with a solo shot to right center in the sixth and a 2 RBI triple to center field in the eighth.
Joseph Dwy broke up the no-hitter with a one out single in the third and stole second but Ruegger struck out the side in the third including a pair of swinging strike outs with one out.
Vierno threw seven innings giving up four hits with five strike outs and four walks. Zack Newman threw one inning in relief surrendering one earned run with a pair of strike outs.
