Rep. Bill Owens, (D-Plattsburgh) will be visiting a soybean processing operation in Hopkinton and a Norwood business Friday.
He will visit Norco Farms for a tour of farmer Dick Akins’ soybean processing operation.
Owens’ staff note that the visit to Akins’ farm comes as the House and Senate are scheduled to meet in conference over the Farm Bill. According to the American Soy Bean Association, which supports a long-term Farm Bill and what they believe is the certainty that would come with it, the soybean industry supports 23 million American jobs.
Later, Owens will meet with the staff of Barrett Paving’s Norwood Asphalt Plant and Quarry. Barrett employs 35 to 40 workers at their Norwood facility. The Norwood operation provides paving materials for state, town, county and municipal roads and airport runways.
Rep. Owens represents New York’s 21st Congressional District, which covers the North Country from just north of Albany up to the Canadian border and west to Lake Ontario.
