RENSSELAER FALLS -- The Rensselaer Falls Fire & Rescue held their awards banquet March 25.

Jeff Hammond was honored with the Hero’s Tribute Award for 12 years of “exemplary service as chief,” the department said.

He recently stepped down as chief to take the position of District Coordinator, Car 4.

The recognition included a slideshow, table tents, banners, and a banquet program featuring Hammond in pictures during his tenure as chief.

Assemblywoman Addie Jenne and Jim Reagan from New York State Senator Patty Ritchie's Office were in attendance.

Jenne and Reagan congratulated each recipient during the ceremony.

Jenne commented on the love that members have for Hammond, the happiness she saw amongst members, and how there were teenagers who were visibly happy to be helping out at the banquet. She said all of these attributes would show someone on the outside that this is a great organization.

Dave Button made a presentation to the Ladies Auxiliary in honor of Margaret Hance, an auxiliary member who recently died.

The ladies auxiliary showed their support of the fire department by making a financial contribution of $3,200 to help purchase thermal imaging cameras and security cameras.

The department also took time to remember deceased members including Kim Galpin, fire department; and Margaret Hance and Janet Williams of the ladies auxiliary.
