Canton, NY – Mike Reilly (Colton, NY) captured medalist honors defeating SUNY Potsdam's John Hickey in a playoff Friday afternoon in the SUNY Canton Invitational at Partridge Golf and Country Club. Reilly and Hickey both shot rounds of 6-over par, 78, on the day.
Both players carded pars on the first playoff hole. The two then played hole number one as Reilly drained a 15-foot putt for birdie putting the pressure on Hickey who was unable to hole out his eight-foot birdie putt.
SUNY Canton and SUNY Potsdam both shot team scores of 321 on the day. The top four scores count for each team, however, when there is a tie for the team title the squad whose fifth golfer has the lowest score serves as the tiebreaker. Potsdam's Ryan Merriman fired an 83 beating out the Roos' Nolan Reid (Champlain, NY) who finished with an 88.
Nate Christy (Canton, NY) finished third individually recording a 7-over par 79. Zach Meade (Tupper Lake, NY) had a strong showing finishing tied for fifth with an 81. Meanwhile, Brandon Pupp (Oneida, NY) finished with a round of 83 to round out the scorers for the SUNY Canton A team.
St. Lawrence University finished in third place as a team tallying 344 strokes. SUNY Environmental Science and Forestry finished in fourth place with 347, while the SUNY Canton B team registered in fifth place with 361.
