Red Dragons' quick start defeats Bears men's basketball

POTSDAM, N.Y.- SUNY Oneonta (3-1, 1-0 SUNYAC) defeated SUNY Potsdam men's basketball team (0-6, 0-1 SUNYAC) Friday night 87-58. Sophomore forward Josh Blagrove (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Ford) scored 10 points with three rebounds for the Bears, while Jackson Zuvic led the Red Dragons with 22 points and five boards.

The teams exchanged baskets the first three minutes of play before Oneonta started a 13-2 run at 16:45 with a layup from Zuvic. Jack Lokosky ended the run with another made layup. Freshman forward Nate Wyatte (Brooklyn, N.Y./Grand Street Campus) hit for two points to cut the Red Dragon lead back to 10. The remaining three minutes of the contest, the teams made multiple trips to the free throw line, but Oneonta took the 40-24 lead into the half.

The Red Dragons scored 16 points in the opening five minutes of the second half to get their lead out to 27. The Bears kept chipping away, but Oneonta never let their lead get to less than 19 points throughout the rest of the half and took the 87-58 victory.

Freshman forward Serigne Kane (Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooklyn Prep) added eight points and nine rebounds and fellow freshmen Dante Langley (Schuylerville, N.Y./Schuylerville) and Vincent Smythe (Brentwood, N.Y./Brentwood) each had seven points. Lawrence Coleman tallied 12 points, eight boards and three steals for the Dragons, while Jack Dignan had 11 points.

The Bears look to bounce back tomorrow when Potsdam heads to SUNY New Paltz to battle the Hawks at 4 p.m.
