In response to “College Student Crime” which ran in the Sept. 30-Oct. 6 issue of North Country This Week: the author is just lying for the sake of promoting deeply racist attitudes. It’s a lie that students of color are making our North Country streets unsafe. It’s a lie that those students or any others get a free ride on tax dollars. All college students in St. Lawrence County are here to invest in their education, and that investment is good for all of us in so many ways. As a white resident, I’d love to see us welcome and appreciate all the positive opportunities that students of color bring to our communities. Let’s reject voices like this one that smear entire racial groups just to fuel fear, hatred, and even violence.
