CANTON – A Potsdam woman was killed this afternoon after her vehicle went into the opposite lane on NYS Hwy. 11 and struck a 2012 Ford Focus, injuring two Gouverneur residents.
Eleanor E. Uffer, 74, of 11 State St., Potsdam, was pronounced dead by Dr. Riccardo Turrin at Canton-Potsdam Hospital where she was taken following the crash that occurred about 3:45 p.m., according to St. Lawrence County sheriff’s deputies.
The driver of in the Ford Focus, Zachary T. Benson, 20, and his passenger, Dominique M. Huckins, 25, both of 513D Sleepy Hollow Rd., Gouverneur, were transported to Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center, Ogdensburg.
Benson suffered minor injuries to his chest and arm; Huckins had minor injuries to her chest and abdomen, deputies said.
Deputies said Uffer was traveling south in a 2009 Subaru and went into the northbound lane before crashing into the Benson vehicle.
An autopsy is scheduled for May 7 at Canton-Potsdam Hosptial by Dr. Samuel Livingstone. However deputies said there were no indications that drugs or alcohol were a factor in the collision.
No criminal charges are expected, deputies said.
Assisting at the scene were Canton Fire and Rescue and Rensselaer Falls Rescue.
Investigating officer was Detective Sgt. Augustus Burns.
