POTSDAM -- Village officials are examining the idea of putting in a pedestrian crosswalk at Leroy and Garden streets across from Potsdam High School.
Village Administrator Greg Thompson said Gwen Deuel made “a great presentation” and a compelling case for a new crosswalk there.
“There is a need right there,” Thompson said. “That’s where many people cross to the school.”
But he said he could make no promises due to some possibly limiting conditions at the site.
Department of Public Works Superintendent Bruce Henderson explained that the sidewalks and the grade from the house lots down to the street are fairly high, and to make a crossing work they would probably have to lower the sidewalk and possibly move a natural gas line.
But Thompson said they are taking the idea seriously. They believe the intersection would be the best place for the crosswalk and will take a hard look at getting it done, if not there then someplace nearby.
