POTSDAM -- The town council is expected to officially appoint its acting assessor to the full-time assessor's position as well as handle other town business at its upcoming meeting.
Council members and the supervisor are to convene at the town offices Thursday, May 16 at 6:30 p.m.
Assessor appointment
Among the agenda items, town council members will vote on the appointment of Danielle Mitchell to full-time town tax assessor.
Mitchell has been serving as acting tax assessor since the spring of 2023 when she was hired to take over for former acting assessor Lachelle Dilcox.
According to the resolution on the agenda, Mitchell has completed all of the state-required assessment courses.
Highway funding
The town board budget will also be adjusted at the meeting to accommodate the recent influx of the town's annual road and highway maintenance funding allotment from the state Department of Transportation.
Potsdam is expected to receive $426,901.48 in CHIPS funding, $99,984.82 in PAVE NY funding, $85,395.97 in EWR funding, and $66,256.54 in POP funding totaling $677,938.81.
The money is to be used for repairs and rehabilitation of town roads.
The town council had originally budgeted for only $394,824.98 in the 2024 budget since it was unknown what amount of grant funding the state would distribute to the municipality.
The resolution the board will consider will increase the highway maintenance line by an extra $283,113.83 to a total of $677,938.81.
Equipment sale, purchases
Also on the agenda, the board is expected to authorize Town Highway Superintendent John Keleher to sell a 2004 Ford Pickup the town no longer needs through Auctions International.
Board members are also expected to authorize the purchase of a 2024 Volvo truck and plow package off state contract the town adopted by resolution on April 12, 2022.
The purchase will be covered in part by funds set aside in the 2023 and 2024 budgets.
The resolution will allow Keleher to execute a loan agreement with State Bank, Baystone Government Finance, for the purchase.
The down payment of $120,000 for the truck will be covered in two payments, the first due by March 15, 2025 and the second due by March 15, 2026.
A purchase of a Dell Latitude 5540 Laptop with Microsoft Office Home and Business 2021 from Clear Data Solutions for the town clerk will also be considered.
