POTSDAM -- Teachers at A.A. Kingston Middle School in Potsdam celebrated National Punctuation Day with students recently with comics, videos and picture books.

The 11th Punctuation Day was Sept. 26 gave teachers a chance to demonstrate the importance of punctuation in writing with a variety of activities to celebrate the day.

Students looked at comics that are related to various punctuation marks; they discovered how changing punctuation in a sentence can change the meaning of the sentence; they watched pianist Victor Borge's classic performance of Phonetic Punctuation; they read the picture book based on the book "Eats, Shoots & Leaves," which illustrated how important commas are in helping to convey the author's meaning; and students were encouraged to enter the contest on the website.

The teachers punctuated the day by wearing bright t-shirts with big punctuation marks on them.
