POTSDAM – The village has signed the paperwork accepting a $126,000 state grant to install a jet-fuel facility at Potsdam Municipal Airport, Damon Field.
The grant, from the state Transit and Aviation Capital Grants program, is for a $140,000 project to make Jet-A fuel more easily accessible to transients and to aircraft based there. The balance is to be paid by the village.
Once the state Department of Transportation countersigns the paperwork, bids can be requested for installation of the Skidmount System tanks and pumps that have been recommended by engineers Passero Associates of Rochester or a comparable system, according the village Clerk/Treasurer Lori Queor.
The above-ground self-service Jet-A fuel farm will be placed next to the regular aviation fuel pumps at the airport.
Jet-A is used by jets and other turbine-engine aircraft, including the helicopters of Air Methods, the air medical transportation service based at Potsdam's airport.
