POTSDAM -- The Potsdam Police Department is looking for more local businesses that might have bought into a proposed map-and-advertising brochure that has not been published as promised, and the producer cannot be found.
In mid-August, the person police seek is alleged to have solicited funds from businesses in the village and vicinity to produce a Potsdam-area map with business locations highlighted and advertising for the businesses included.
“So far five businesses in the village and one just outside have purchased this from him,” said Officer Kyle Fink, who is investigating.
Fink said the seller promised the brochure would be published, “they were told pretty quickly,” but his cell phone doesn’t seem to be working and he hasn’t been located.
One businessperson called the salesperson in mid-September to make an adjustment to their ad and was told the brochures would be back soon, but attempts to reach him since have not succeeded, and no brochures have arrived.
“He has not been seen or heard from for weeks,” Fink said.
Fink said as far as he knows, the unnamed suspect is originally from Ogdensburg, could be in Massena, and has lived in Norfolk.
If there are other businesspeople who have signed up to participate in the map and brochure, they are asked to call the Potsdam police at 265-2121.
