POTSDAM -- Elks Lodge #2074 will collect candy bars through February for the “Sweet Treats for Soldiers” campaign.
The candy bars collected will be donated to the Fort Drum USO primarily for distribution to soldiers as they deplane at Fort Drum from overseas deployments.
The USO operates the "There When They Land" snack bar at the Fort Drum airfield and has found that one of the first requests returning soldiers have is for candy bars unavailable otherwise.
Candy bars will also be available for redeploying service members, active duty service members and recruits at the Fort Drum Main Center and, in the future, at the planned USO Center at the Syracuse Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS).
Over 46,000 candy bars have been donated to date.
Donations of funds or candy bars can be delivered to the Potsdam Elks Lodge located at 10 Elm Street in Potsdam or sent to the Lodge at PO Box 415, Potsdam NY 13676-0415.
