POTSDAM -- SUNY Potsdam’s women's soccer team has earned recognition for its clean play during the 2013 campaign.

The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) has awarded the Potsdam women a Gold Team Ethics Award for the 2013 season.

The honor was bestowed upon the Bears for playing the entire season without accumulating a single yellow or red card. Potsdam was one of two SUNYAC teams to earn the Gold Award.

Across the country, 254 teams received either the Gold, Silver or Bronze version of the College Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award, which recognizes teams that exhibit fair play, sporting behavior and adherence to the laws of the game, as reflected by the number of yellow caution cards or red ejection cards they are shown by referees throughout the season.

The Bears completed the 2013 season with a 5-11 record, (2-7) SUNYAC. Potsdam allowed just 1.59 goals-per-game this season and recorded five shutouts, the most since 2010.
