POTSDAM — SLC Arts invites artists to submit artwork for their 2023 Valentine’s Day card exhibit, "Love is in the Air!"

Submissions of handmade Valentine’s Day cards, either new or vintage, to be displayed at the exhibit are requested. There are no official guidelines for the content on the cards, but submissions that involve themes of love, friendship, romance, and gratitude are encouraged.

Submission deadline is Jan. 30.

Submit online through https://slcartscouncil.org/exhibits/ .

The final exhibited work will be selected by Sharon H.J. Cheng, an artist working with SLC Arts through the Creatives Rebuild New York grant program.

This is the third theme in a series of Town Hall exhibits curated by Cheng focusing on mediums more accessible to the general public.

Cards should be a maximum size of 8.5 by 11 inches when open, and 8.5 by 5.5 inches when closed. There is no limit or restrictions to when the card was crafted. There is no jury fee required for this exhibit.

The opening reception for this exhibit will be held on Feb. 9 at 5 p.m. at the Potsdam Town Hall.

Attendance is not mandatory but strongly encouraged.

Artists will be given the opportunity to discuss their work.

If you have any questions regarding this exhibit, contact the Arts Center Manager at artscenter@slcartscouncil.org.

SLC Arts manages all sales, collects sales tax and shipping fees (if applicable), and covers credit card fees. The artist will receive a commission of 70% of the sale price.

Submission criteria:

Cards submitted may have been created at any time; there is no restriction on date of creation.

Each entrant may submit 1-5 cards to be judged.

Accepted works must be no bigger than 8.5”x 11” when open, and 8.5”x 5.5” when closed; SLC Arts will provide hanging materials and handle installation.

Accepted works must be brought to SLC Arts by the artist prior to the exhibit opening. Artists will be contacted to arrange a drop-off time.

Artists must include Title of Work, Year of Card, Artists' Name, and Total Sale Price (that the customer will pay).

Artists strongly urged to have their work for sale - listed price should include 70% for the artist and 30% commission for SLC Arts.

Artists who do not wish to sell their work must still provide an estimate of value for insurance purposes.
