MASSENA -- It turned out that some school kids who were afraid that a plane they were watching might have gone down in the St. Lawrence River near the Moses-Saunders Power Dam were wrong, but authorities had to check it out.
St. Lawrence County Fire Rescue Deputy Frank Burns said what the school kids saw was probably a military plane maneuvering over the river.
Burns said Canadian Armed Forces confirmed that one of their aircraft had been flying in a low pattern in the area, and when the plane banked steeply out of sight, the kids thought the worst.
Akwesasne Police had personnel in the area, and they reported seeing nothing unusual.
Massena’s Dive Team and Massena Fire were dispatched to try to look for any sign, but before they got on scene they were called back, since by then it was determined the report was a false alarm.
