Peak Moment TV on WCKN-TV explore ‘What is Sustainable?’ Nov. 17, 18

POTSDAM -- Aired on WCKN-TV on Mon., Nov. 17 and Tues., Nov. 18 at 7 pm, Peak Moment TV host Janaia Donaldson and her guest, Richard Reese, explore the question, What is Sustainable?, the title of Reece’s book. His companion book is Sustainable or Bust.

Reece says, "We're a mining society. We mine the soils, the groundwater, the forest, the minerals, the fish…We're destroying non-renewable resources. There's no future in it." His work examines past cultures in search of patterns for a sustainable future. Earlier cultures lived slower and simpler. They limited their populations; many prohibited over-hunting.

He concludes that ours is a story of tools: "We're really clever on the tool-making side of the game, and very undeveloped on the foresight side of the game." As resource bubbles pop and industrial civilization collapses, can we use wisdom from sustainable cultures, and not just repeat the same mistakes in the next civilization?

Now in its sixth year, the Peak Moment TV programs air every week at 7 pm on Monday and Tuesday on WCKN, Time Warner Digital 30. Peak Moment explores locally reliant living for challenging times. The programs are underwritten locally by The Center for Excellence in Communication at Clarkson University and the Seymour Family of Potsdam.

Peak Moment TV concludes the month with First Nations People Reclaiming Their Heritage on Nov. 24-25.

In the weeks and months to come, WCKN will continue to air PEAK Moment TV. The topics covered will include local food production, renewable energy, transportation alternatives, sustainable building, preparedness and psychological, business, and governmental responses. All the programs are available on the internet at www.wordpress.peakmoment.tv/conversations/ in both video and audio format.

In addition, more than 80 Peak Moment TV shows are now available on DVDs which can be borrowed from the Potsdam Public Library from the collection of shows purchased for broadcast locally.
