NORWOOD -- The Seaway Career & Technical Education Center is pleased to announce Nicholas Chase as the Potsdam Rotary Club Student of the Month for September 2020.
He is a student in the building trades program, from the Parishville-Hopkinton Central School District and is the son of Kari Chase.
Building trades is a two-year program which provides an understanding of the basic theories of carpentry and residential electrical which are then applied to a building project.
A complete house is built on site and sold each year. The areas of study include safe use of hand and power tools, framing techniques, roofing, siding, sheetrock installation, exterior and interior finishing, stair construction and cabinet installation.
Chase is a senior in the program and has worked on both of the house projects.
“Nicholas, or aka in building trades “Chasey”, has been a pleasure to have in my class," said Larry Ashley, building trades instructor. "He is always ready to go to work every day. In his junior year, he had perfect attendance and it is his goal to attain perfect attendance again this year. Even during remote learning with COVID, Nicholas completed google classroom every day”.
Two other students were recognized as Program Student of the Month for their class at Seaway Career & Tech Center; Julia Basford, culinary arts from Potsdam, and Hunter Blauvelt, natural resource management, Canton.
