Editor's Note: This letter written in response to Nov. 4 letter headlined: Massena woman says enough is enough; the GOP has gone too far

Again we are subjected to Martha Hodges’ monthly liberal screed canonizing Democrats and demonizing Republicans.

Ms. Hodge is entitled to her opinion but she is not entitled to her own set of twisted diabolical “facts.” Let’s play the game she created in her latest work of fiction:

If not for the Republicans, the first Republican President in fact, a small group of wealthy Southern Democrats would likely still be enslaving thousands of black people to tend their tobacco and other crops.

Republican Abraham Lincoln freed the slaves and successfully beat back the Democrats’ attempt to rip our country apart. Republicans fought to empower former slaves with the right to vote despite Southern Democrats’ opposition.

Republicans were the first to support women’s suffrage as well, against Democrats’ opposition. Ms. Hodges seems to have dodged those two minor flaws in her beloved party.

If it were left to Democrats, the Civil Rights Act of 1964 would never have passed. Ms. Hodges is either ignorant of or willfully lying about that fact. This happened after Republican President Dwight Eisenhower sent federal troops to Democratic Little Rock, Arkansas, to force desegregation in public schools there.

Republican Richard Nixon, who people like Ms. Hodges despise, was the first President to open a dialogue with China. However, unlike our current President, he and his family were not bought and paid for by the Chinese Communist Party.

Nixon created the Environmental Protection Agency. Did Ms. Hodges forget that or just ignore it in an attempt to give her foolish polemic more credibility?

Nixon also attempted to enforce desegregation while Democrats clung to their racist, Jim Crow past.

Republican Ronald Reagan ended the Cold War and set the stage for the collapse of the U.S.S.R. “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!” he demanded. It happened, and millions were freed from the socialism’s oppressive yoke.

How about Republican President Bush’s “No Child Left Behind Act?” Miss that one Martha?

I could go on but I won’t. I’ll leave it to your readers to do their own research into the United States’ real history. For God’s sake and our country’s future, please don’t rely on Martha Hodges twisted interpretation!!!

What is most evident in her diatribes is her deep-rooted, seething hatred for half of the voters in our country. She, along with many liberals, just can’t get over the fact that Donald Trump triumphed over the Hillary Clinton sleaze factory that created the fictitious Steele Dossier and the whole Russia Collusion myth. That myth cost us millions of dollars because a handful of idiots in Congress decided to hold “hearings” into something that never existed.

Martha Hodges’ hatred and antipathy is typical of the lengths to which some liberals will go to gravely damage our democracy every day. My hope is that one day they will get the mental health assistance they need to return the greatest nation the world has even seen to a place of peace and respect for people who you hate just because they have a different opinion than yours.
