To the Editor:
At this late point in my life I find myself being nostalgic about a lot of things. For instance: remember pay phones? There used to be a lot of them spread all over the place, owned by the Bells before the breakups.
I used to use them a lot for a lot of different reasons.
Then they started to disappear, slowly at first, and then quickly as the 4 Bell Companies were forced to stop their monopolies and limit competition. Pay phones went the way of the dinosaurs all at the same time.
Nowadays one is hard pressed to locate a pay phone. Oh, they still exist in many airports, public places such as court buildings and the like, but you won't spot them from the street.
I miss them, actually, although even if they still existed on every street, I couldn't use them since I am disabled.
The need for them apparently went away, but I still miss them.
