OGDENSBURG – An Ogdensburg woman was charged with welfare fraud after she accepted more than $18,000 in benefits she was not entitled too, according to a release from the St. Lawrence county District Attorney’s office.

Laura R. Collins, 28, of 270B Pinkerton Road, Apt. B, was charged with third-degree welfare fraud and three counts of first-degree offering a false instrument for filing.

A St. Lawrence County sheriff’s deputies’ investigation revealed that Collins allegedly submitted weekly day care statements that contained false information. Deputies said she received $18,297.47 in benefits she was not entitled to between April 9, 2009 and October 2, 2011.

She was arraigned in Pierrepont Town Court and released under probation supervision.
