CANTON – An Ogdensburg woman was arrested Sunday on welfare fraud charges for allegedly receiving $1,612 she was not entitled to, according to St. Lawrence County sheriff’s deputies.
Amber R. Van Lew, 28, was charged with filing misinformation after filling out a food stamp application and reporting she was renting property that she owned, officer said.
Van Lew allegedly received the benefits from July 21, 2010 to July 31, 2011, deputies said.
The investigation was reportedly conducted by the Investigations unit of the St. Lawrence County Department of Social Services.
Van Lew was released on an appearance ticket returnable to Canton Town Court at a later date, officers said.
