OGDENSBURG -- With more jumpers than ever before, Ogdensburg's Polar Bear Plunge raised $7,775.

The largest share came from 14-year-old Jack Downing who raised $1,790. Downing also raised the most money in pledges last year.

In second place was 9-year-old Paige Merz with $1,143.

Steve Conger dressed as Mimi Boubet won the costume contest. Laurie Sargent and Christine Thrasher, who dressed as Thing I and Thing II, won second place in the costume contest.

Dr. Michael Seidman and his wife who donated the money back to the event won the 50/50 raffle of $150.00.

“This year we had almost twice as many jumpers and spectators as last year. Last year it was very warm with lots of open water. This year the conditions were perfect…sunny and cold," Ogdensburg Chamber executive director Sandy Porter said. "Having the Polar Bear Run in the morning and the Plunge in the afternoon is a great way to kick off “River Shiver” in Ogdensburg."

Porter said many of the people who ran in the morning came back and jumped in the afternoon.

Porter said Amanda Stopa, who won best overall time for the women in Saturday’s race, is also the chamber's new office assistant.

All proceeds are split between the chamber of commerce and the Ogdensburg Volunteer Rescue Squad. Porter said the OVRS is key the event's success.

"I want to thank OVRS for partnering with us on this event; without them we just couldn’t do it,” she said.

Above is Kimro’s Medicine Place’s pharmacists Kim Demers and Natalie Jackson dressed as Vikings. Between them they raised $741.00
