OGDENSBURG -- Ogdensburg City Council accepted a $100,000 grant Monday to assist the fire department with the purchase of a new vehicle.

Ogdensburg Fire Chief Michael Farrell said the he applied for the grant more than a year earlier with help from City Planner Andrea Smith.

He said the grant was finally approved following support from Sen. Patty Ritchie.

The funding will be used to purchase a new emergency medical service vehicle to replace the department’s 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe.

Farrell told city council the department has budgeted the funds to cover the difference, which is expected to be less than $10,000.

City councilors offered Farell, Smith and Ritchie appreciation for the efforts in securing the funding.

The grant is through the state and municipalities grant.
