NORWOOD — Norwood beach is helping to kick off the community’s 150th anniversary with a variety of activities, and more summer programming is planned in coming weeks.

“As part of the 150th Anniversary of the Village of Norwood, We will be holding a number of family events at Norwood Beach on July 2nd,” said Michelle Garrow, Norwood Beach aquatics director.

Norwood Lake Association will be holding their annual "Flotilla.” All boaters are welcome to participate. Boats will meet in the water near Terry LaFleur's house, Garrow said. This parade on the water will kick off at noon.

Spectators can watch from anywhere on the lake or at the Beach.

A Red, White and Blue Tie-Dye will be held from 1-3 p.m. Those attending can bring something white to tie-dye or can purchase 150th Anniversary T-shirts for $15 to make a one of a kind souvenir.

Norwood Public Library will hold a story walk on July 2 all day. The family activity will involve a leisurely walk and read on the beach grounds.

The band Another Roadside Attraction will play a wide variety of music from the 1960s-2010s at the Norwood Beach from 1-3 p.m.

Finally, on July 2, Narcan training by St. Lawrence County Addiction Services will be offered. This program is free and open to the public. Call 315-353-9965 to sign up.

Upcoming events

Swim lesson sign-ups are underway, and the final in person sign-ups at the beach will be held June 29 from 5-7 p.m.

Signups are also available by phone by calling 315-353-9965.

A Cornell Cooperative Extension educator will be at the beach from 12:30-1:30 on Wednesdays beginning on July 6 offering free programs to the public.

“Amanda Jones from the Norwood Public Library will be joining us for "Library at the Beach" on Thursdays at 12:30 beginning on July 14th. Children will listen to various stories, do arts and crafts and participate in a variety of activities. This is open to all ages,” Garrow said.
