POTSDAM -- The final two shows of the spring season for North Country Matters feature programs and information from show partner the League of Women Voters.
In the first show, Kathleen Stein, the president of the St. Lawrence County League of Women Voters and Hannah Tupper, a senior at Canton High School, talk about the League of Women Voter’s Students Inside Albany program.
SIA is designed to increase students’ awareness of how in representative government works in New York and provide the tools necessary for becoming citizen activists.
Hannah Tupper was the local League’s Student Inside Albany conference attendee in May. She talks about what she learned in the program and how it impacted her understanding of New York State government.

In the second show, Stein discusses more of the new laws enacted in New York State with NCM host Donna Seymour.
They examine the Domestic Violence Survivors Justice Act, new protections for renters, updated gun laws, new protections for children and school bus safety, and changes to the state’s STAR program, among other topics.

The NCM civic partners working to educate North Country residents about critical public policy issues facing our region are the League of Women Voters of St. Lawrence County and the Potsdam Public Library.
