A new scholarship has been established that will benefit students in the Madrid-Waddington Central School District.
The Dr. Allen A. and Joan Taylor Welch Education Fund, a component fund of the Northern New York Community Foundation, was created by Joan in memory of her late husband.
The endowed scholarship will provide over $10,000 in scholarships each year to graduating Madrid-Waddington seniors and will be based primarily on financial need.
Welch, who practiced dentistry in Massena for over 37 years, passed away last May 29.
In addition to honoring the legacy of Dr. Welch, the new fund is also made in memory of Donald J. Connors and Kathryn Fay, both whom had a profound impact on Dr. Welch’s life and career.
“This is an incredibly meaningful and thoughtful gesture which will not only keep Dr. Welch’s legacy alive and well, but will benefit many, many students in their pursuit of their educational dreams,” said Rande S. Richardson, Community Foundation executive director. “We are grateful to have the honor to steward this gift on behalf of the Welch family so that it will grow and change and shape lives in perpetuity,” said Richardson.
