POTSDAM -- The Potsdam United Methodist Church recently welcomed Rev. Brooke Newell as its new pastor.

Bishop Mark Webb of the Upper New York Conference of the United Methodist Church appointed Newell to the church.

Newell is also the coordinating pastor of the West Stockholm United Methodist Church.

A graduate of the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Va. and Yale Divinity School in New Haven, Conn., Newell was ordained as an elder in 1997. Most recently, she served the Whiteface Community United Methodist Church in Wilmington for four years.

The church also welcomes her husband, Caspar Green, and their 11-year-old son, Silas. Green is the owner and lead developer for iCaspar Web Development, a website design and consulting group. Silas is in the sixth grade at AA Kingston Middle School.

Newell said that she is “delighted to be part of a church that makes such a difference in the community. The members of the congregation are engaged in so many different forms of ministry, yet never seem tired!"

The Potsdam United Methodist Church is at 26 Main St.

Sunday worship and Sunday School are at 10:30 a.m.
