HEUVLETON -- The 69th annual Heuvelton Central School graduation ceremony was held Friday, June 23, 2016 at 7 p.m. in the Poulton Auditorium.
The ceremony opened with Paige McCormick, Senior Class President.
Matthew Cameron, the son of Scott and Rhonda Cameron also gave a speech.
Matthew is a member of the National Honor Society, the Whiz Quiz team, the Rocket Club and he also earned a Varsity letter in golf. He has been honored as an Academic All-Star by WWNY TV7 and as an Academic All Northern by Section X. Additionally he has served as Class Treasurer and has received an Evergreen STEM scholarship from the NNY Community Foundation. Matthew plans to continue his studies at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Boston where he will major in Computer Science.
Kedan Mack, the daughter of Kevin and Dawn Mack will also addressed her classmates during the ceremony. Kedan is a National Honor Society member, a participant with the Whiz Quiz Team and she has served as class vice president. Kedan has also earned Varsity letters in basketball, soccer, softball and volleyball and she has been recognized as both a NYS Scholar Athlete and a Section X Academic All- Northern several times. She is the recipient of a NYS Academic Excellence Scholarship and the Section X Athletic Directors Scholarship Next year she will attend University of Buffalo where she plans to pursue a Nursing major.
Paige McCormick, the daughter of Charles and Kari McCormick delivered the third honor address of the evening. Paige is a member of the National Honor Society, she has served as class president and secretary, and she has participated in Marching Band She has earned Varsity letters in basketball, volleyball, soccer and softball has been a recognized as a NYS Scholar Athlete and an Academic All-Northern for several seasons. Paige was also recognized as the NYS Class D Player of the Year and the Section X Jan Reitz Player of the year. In the fall she will attend the University of Massachusetts at Amherst where she plans to study Communication Science and Disorders.
Tanner LaPiene, the son of Kenneth and Billi Jo LaPiene was the final student speaker. Tanner is a member of the National Honor Society, the Rocket club and he has been a member of the Whiz Quiz Team. He has earned Varsity letters in soccer and wrestling and has been a Section X Wrestling Champion several times and a NYS semi-finalist. He is one of the inaugural recipients of the Evergreen STEM Scholarship provided by the NNY Community Foundation and a NYS Academic Excellence Scholarship. Tanner will be using these awards next year at the University of Buffalo where he plans to pursue a doctoral degree in Physical Therapy.
