GOUVERNEUR -- The 2018 Regional "Battle of the Books" was held at St. James School on May 5 and a team from the Morristown Library won first place.
A team from Canton Free Library came in second place, and the Ogdensburg Public Library team placed third.
The battle is book-based trivia tournament for youth in grades 4-6. Interested students receive a list of 20 books each January to prepare for the honored title of Comprehension Champions. The team that demonstrates the most knowledge about the content of these books becomes that year's champions.
Libraries from St Lawrence, Jefferson, Lewis and Oswego Counties are each eligible to send one team comprised of four students to compete at the Regional Battle.
The battle at St. James School was facilitated by experts from the North Country Library System and many of its member libraries, and featured teams from 35 libraries.
Morristown Public Library's "Grimoires," comprised of Ivan Kring, Regan Butler, Isaac Begel and Joey Kring, demonstrated utmost understanding of this year's chosen award-winning books, placing first and taking the gold medal in the 2018 competition.
Each member of the team received a personal gold medallion commemorating their achievement and also has the privilege of displaying the 18-inch Gold Cup in their Public Library for the year.
