CANTON -- The St. Lawrence County Historical Association's newest miniatures are the Scotch Presbyterian Church in Chipman, the old Ogdensburg Armory and the Cranberry Lake dam.
The church was established by Scottish immigrants in 1819 and is one of the oldest continuously operating parishes in St. Lawrence County. The present church was erected in the early 1890s and dedicated on July 2, 1892.
New York state built the old Ogdensburg Armory in 1858 as a storehouse for old muskets and other ordnance used by the militia. This building still stands at the east end of the Lafayette-Spring Street Bridge and is used as office space.
The original Cranberry Lake dam, town of Clifton, was built in 1865-1867 at the outlet of Cranberry Lake, and was originally a 13-foot-high timber crib filled with stone. This original dam has been replaced several times, beginning with a concrete dam built in 1916.
